Texas License Requirements

Adjuster License Requirements

To become a licensed Texas insurance adjuster, individuals must:

  • Be 18 years of age or more.
  • Submit the appropriate application and fees.
  • Be a United States citizen or legal alien who possesses a work authorization from the US Immigration and Naturalization Services.
  • Take a certified adjuster pre-licensing course or training program in adjusting losses as prescribed and approved by TDI, or successfully complete the Pearson Vue Exam.

If residing in another state that licenses adjusters, you must hold your home state’s license before becoming eligible for the Texas non-resident adjuster license.

Exam Exemptions

The following applicants are not required to pass the state exam or take a pre-licensing course:

  • Texas Adjuster whose license has been expired for more than 90 days but less than one year.
  • Non-resident applicant holding an adjuster license in a reciprocal state.
  • You have completed a TDI-approved course or training program within the last 12 months in adjusting losses.
  • You have the chartered property and casualty underwriter or associate in claims designation.

Adjuster Pre-Licensing

Resident applicants gain exemption from the Texas state exam by completing the Texas All-Lines Adjuster Pre-Licensing program This 40 hour course is available through American Adjuster Academy in both online and classroom environments.

Texas License Application

If you choose to qualify for the license by taking one of our Pre-Licensing courses, in our class or online, you must submit the following to the Texas Department of Insurance (TDI) once the course an exam have been completed:

  • Submit your application online at Sircon
  • Pay applicable fees set by TDI; and
  • Fingerprint receipt; and
  • Course completion certificate, if requested. (we will provide this to you after receiving the notarized affidavit of your monitored final exam)

Note: Non-resident applicants from non-licensing states who plan on designating Texas as their home state will need to submit fingerprints for the criminal background check.
